Last summer, I invited a few friends round with the premise that I could take some photos of them and test out my camera and a fairly basic amateur lighting setup.

I'm not a professional photographer, I could barely be considered an amateur, and despite Carl's (the one with the tattoos) great modelling skills, these guys aren't professional models either, haha!
I may try seeing what I can do with them in photoshop (or lightroom - thanks ed) at some point, but for now - back to my dissertation :(

Looks like a lot of fun!
you should look into adobe lightroom
The middle two in black&white are the best imo, the poses in the rest of them feel a little awkward
mostly the guy with the ponytail, lol
nice fisheye
not that bad! don't under value your stuff, sell yourself as amateur at least. :)
Like your pics man. good post.
Casual, but good pics
Not bad at all
Nice photos man I wish I had the skill to do photography :D
yeah your doing it all wrong, get chicks to model for ya.
i like the pez picture
some good photos, i like the fisheye style of some
those are some great photos!
you should get a flickr account if you're into photography.
Nice stuff though! Not bad at all :)
Definitely not bad, especially for an 'amateur' ;)
All good shots. a3
Nice pics.
I think the black and white really does a great job. If you do end up editing them, I'd make the 4th bunch down from the top black and white.
the fisheye looks good
They're good, actually
Love that fisheye!
I've got a new DSLR myself and trying to learn the ropes. It's definitely a fun challenge!
I like these photos! They have an interesting perspective.
not bad for amateur photos pretty impressive
you like your fish eye.
really like the pictures, esp the open mouth, looks scary hah
Those are pretty nice. And to be honest, with the accessibility of nice cameras and picture editing programs, to me there isn't much of a difference between a professional photographer and an amatuer.
These are actually pretty cool!
fish eye lenses always make for interesting photos. :)
Hey very cool. Like the contrast on those photos.
love the light art 'pez' one :)
Love the PEZ pic
great lense!
nice, the black and white filter works very well with your photos. Good job
pretty sweet pictures: love the fisheye effect
really good photos!
nice pics bro, waiting for more :)
the ball thing is kind of cool, and so is the lightwriting thing... awesome =D
I really like the slow shutter speed used to capture the "pez". its weird to coz back here in aus theres a relatively well known aussie hip-hop artist called pez!
love the fish eye
Last ones best IMHO, guy on the left is a bit static though
it looks like you guys had fun
Nice pics dude, nice lighting.
They look awesome!
Good work with those.
wow, cute black and white immages :-)
MY CUP OF COFFEE
really nice pics!
Pics are interesting. I would like to learn myself how to do these in photoshop.
I think it's decent, keep up the good work :)
Your photos are looking great, dont be so harsh on yourself, amatuer is an understatement!
Ended up pretty well, loved the light painting.
I like the pez one (:
Love the long exposition one!
Next time draw Mona Lisa with your light :D
Pretty good pictures :)
Really good pics there. following.
I think one way to start breaking into the realm of professional photography is to adjust your framing and focusing:
Focus: always on the closer eye (it is the most commonly looked at object in a picture/face.
Framing: Rule of thirds states you should place your subject at the 1/3 or 2/3 line of the frame. You've put it in the center (1/2 line), creating tons of dead space above your subjects.
That's a lot of fisheye pictures. I think the look is overused in modern media. But regardless of that, seeing friends get together and collaborate on something like this is awesome and sounds fun. My friends are all camera shy, so... lol...
cool long exposure shot
I don't really like fisheye pictures..and get some girls to do the modelling :P
really good photos.
those look great!! i really like your design of your blog too

Nice pics dude
not bad, I like the black&white ones
Don't sell yourself too short man. I may not know what to look for to consider someone a "professional" over an "amateur" but I do think these are some pretty fantastic pictures. Keep up the good work!
Cool, i've always wanted to know how you make those light lines in the Pez one.
hmmm not bad looks pretty good to me
Fish eye lense is always sweet! And leaving the lens open to get a long exposer so you can draw with light is always awesome
With modern cameras, anyone who can hold it still is a professional photographer as far as I'm concerned.
Some great photos there man, good work - I like the little pattern you got going there with the placement.
Nice looking pictures, whether you're an amateur or not.
they're pretty good, nothing to be ashamed of!
you gotta love the fisheye lens
WoW these pics doesn't really look like they are shot by an amateur. Quite impressive photo-shooting skills!
Nice photos, as always!
Great photos man!
Great photo's man. More like this please.
Nice photos.
Great blog, mate :)
Not bad at all, just keep taking pictures and they'll get better and better. You have an eye anyway.
Awesome blog, I followed you.
Best tip to an amateur: Do you have a separate flash? As in, not the one attached to camera. If so, never use direct flash on your subject if possible. This creates shadows and it looks fake. If you do have a separate flash then always look for white walls, or your best option a white ceiling. Point the flash to the ceiling to bounce back on your subject. If you learn this simple trick your photos will look very professional and more natural. :)
Nice work with the fisheye
Very proo pics
Nice. You have a better eye than most people I know; keep up the good work.
Damn, I need a fish-eye lens.
coool pictures
I really like the one where "pez" is written in light. That's a really cool trick how do you do that? I'm not really into photography, but a couple of my friends are. Anyways cool pics! +follow
This looks like you all had fun while getting shot... by the camera.
All very nice photos .
Not bad at all!
Very interesting perspectives
hahaha, i love that Pez light picture.

Yep the fisheye gives some really cool effect, pretty good for amateur photographer!
Awesome photo's real talent ;D
i fucking love when people do the light effect with the camera, dont know how they do it, but it looks sick, good job
Not bad, I like the fisheye shots.
Some of them turned out really well.
